Species info: Nearly all Blue-tongued skinks are found on mainland Australia, but a few are found on nearby islands of New Guinea and Indonesia. They have very hard scales, which actually are made of small pieces of bone tissue, making them stronger against predators.  Alligators have them as well. It will actually ingest small stones to help it digest food. Like other lizards, it can drop its tail to help it get away from predators. Blue tongued skinks are very unique when it comes to having babies. Most lizards lay eggs, the eggs hatch, and the babies are born. However with Skinks, the babies actually are hatched from soft eggs inside the mother, and she gives birth to live young (like venomous snakes)! It uses its blue tongue to scare and confuse predators and warn them not to eat him.
