Habitat/Range: Caracals are found in Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. They live in a variety of habitats including savanna, semi-desert, dry woodland, arid hilly steppe, and dry mountains.

Behavior: Caracals are solitary, sly felines who hunt mainly at night. They are carnivorous and prey on small mammals, rodents and birds. They are known for their incredible jumping abilities and can swat birds out of the air by jumping up to 10 feet!

Breeding: Caracals become sexually mature by the end of their first year, around the same time they leave their mothers. They bred anytime throughout the year and have a gestation period of 2-3 months. At the end of their gestation period, they give birth to litters of 1-6 kittens.

Conservation: Listing: Least Concern. Habitat loss is the primary threat for caracals.
